During the whole month of September we will arrange a festival with a taste from a very colorful country well worth knowing a bit more about. The festival will be spread all over the city at various places.
A country where high technology stands side by side with a most living ancient culture and which has a very fast changing development.
The festival will offer concerts including classical music with some of India's greatest performers as well as fusion music between east and west., classical temple dances and modern fashionable Bollywood dance, a film festival, art exhibitions, photo exhibitions, authors, lectures, sales market, different work shops, yoga, ayurvedic medicine, food, etc...

Ganapati Håkan Almkvist and Debasish Mukherjee - north Indian classic raga on sitar and tabla

Håkan Almkvist - One of few Swedish musicians who's been playing the sitar for more than 20 years. He played his latest concert on a Brahmin Wedding in Chennai, India in march 2011.
Debasish Mukherjee - Professional musician from Calcutta in West Bengal. He has played at the most prestigous music festivals in India together with many of the country's biggest artists.

Lele Lele from Stockholm is arranging their Bulgarian Folk based music (often using different odd meters in the rhythm) with a rather odd instrumentation using the Indian instruments sitar & tabla along with clarinet, saxophone, Bulgarian lute, tuba, guitar and vocals.

Shashank and Shirisha - classical south Indian music and dance performance at Uppsala Konsert & Kongress

Maestro Shashank: is a musical prodigy breaking all records regards the south Indian flute. He is now among the most sought after top artists from India and have by the age of merely 30 years been playing with all major music masters of India including both south and north Indian classical musicians. He will play with one of south India's best Mrdangam player Satishkumar Patri They will also perform together with Shirisha Shashank who is dancing a classical dance called Bharathanatyam. BOLLYWOOD - Indian film dance - workshop at Portens Dance studio Leader: Forough Zeraati

Bollywood is the nickname for the huge movie making industry in Mumbai. Bollywood is the commercial name for all the different kind of dance scenes included in every Indian movie.
The characteristics for the dance style are expressive gestures and mimics performed to fancy and rhythmic modern Indian music. The workshop will focus on the hips movements, different twists and turns etc. leading to two short choreographic dance pieces.
No need for any previous dance experience to participate.

"Earth Etics " Dr.P.Kamala Willey. Dr. P. Kamala Willey, author of Earth Ethics of M.K. Gandhi with teachings from Holy Mother Amma will be giving a free talk on the basic ideals behind Earth Ethics, with questions and answers on Gandhi's Birthday. The discussion will be followed by a showing of the 30 minute film, Embracing the World, about the Holy Mother, and the 190 minute movie ''Gandhi.
